Stocks extend gaining streak

DHAKA, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS)- Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- today witnessed an upward trend  like earlier as investors continued showing renewed buying interest particularly on banking and textile sector stocks. 

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, advanced by 34.9 points to settle at 5,510 points as against 5,475 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed that the market started off with an upward momentum riding on price appreciation across the majority of scrip, although continued profit-taking tendency kept the indices on check. 

Meanwhile, market turnover again fell by 4.6% to TK 6.7 billion from TK 7.1 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Bank (16.0%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (11.7%) and Engineering (11.1%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed positive returns, out of which Paper (4.4%), Jute (4.4%) and Cement (1.9%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while only Mutual Fund (-0.7%) and Telecom (-0.1%) exerted slight corrections. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 219 advanced, 101 declined and 77 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on green terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced by 45.2 points and 66.8 points, respectively.
