One held with gold bars in Chapainawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, March 13, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a man with two gold bars at the Sonamasjid Land Port check-post in Chapainawabganj on Thursday.

The arrested was identified as Md. Sani Mai, 27, of Mymensingh's Gafargaon upazila.

According to BGB, the suspect was intercepted around 5:00 pm during routine checking after metal was detected through an archway scanner. 

Later, an X-ray confirmed the presence of two gold bars weighing 231.81 grams, valued at about Tk 54 lakh.

BGB said the gold was being smuggled to India. A case has been filed with Shibganj Police Station in this regard.
