Italy keen to deepen economic ties with Bangladesh

DHAKA, Sept 24, 2025 (BSS) - Italy has expressed keen interest in deepening sustainable trade and investment ties with Bangladesh.

The interest was conveyed today during a meeting between Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro at Bangladesh Secretariat in the city, said a press release.

During the meeting, detailed discussions covered various aspects of bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Italy.

Both parties emphasized the importance of making the economic relationship between the two countries deeper and broader.

Expressing his eagerness to strengthen commercial ties with Italy, Sheikh Bashir Uddin assured the envoy that the investment environment in Bangladesh now is better than any time. 

He further stated that the Ministry of Commerce is committed to providing all kinds of cooperation to Italian investors.

Ambassador Antonio Alessandro highlighted that Italy is keen to encourage Italian investment and technology transfer within the country. 

The envoy pointed out that there is significant potential for expanding cooperation, particularly in the SME sector.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Md Abdur Rahim Khan and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Italy in Dhaka Federico Zamparelli were present on the occasion.
