CA begins packed 2nd day of NY tour

NEW YORK, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will join at least 10 engagements today, the second day of his visit, including the inaugural session of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The chief adviser will begin the day by attending a welcome reception hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said.

Prof Yunus will attend the inaugural session of the 80th UNGA session from 9am to 10am.

Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan and SDGs Affairs Principal Coordinator Lamiya Morshed will accompany the chief adviser at the inaugural session.

According to his programme schedule, the chief adviser will hold a meeting with the director general of WTO at 10:30 am.

Besides, he will hold a meeting with the President of World Bank at 11 am. 

A meeting between Prof Yunus and Her Majesty Máxima, the Queen of the Netherlands, will be held at 11:30 am.

He will attend an event titled "Fashion for Development (F4D): 13th Annual Official First Ladies Luncheon" at 12:30 pm.

The chief adviser will also join a "Meeting of Public and Private Sector Leaders on Social Innovation: Mobilizing Financing through Social Innovation" at 2:45 pm in New York.

The chief adviser will join a reception hosted by United States President Donald Trump and Mrs. Melania Trump at 7 pm.

Chief Adviser Prof Yunus on Monday arrived in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

A commercial flight of Emirates airlines carrying the Chief Adviser and his entourage landed at the John F Kennedy International Airport, New York, at 3:00 pm (NY time).

On first day of his visit, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium met Chief Adviser Prof Yunus on the sidelines of an event at the UN headquarters on Monday. 

Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown called on Prof Yunus on the sidelines of an event at the UN headquarters.

Besides, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva met the Bangladesh Chief Adviser at the UN headquarters here.
