Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, plunged by 75.1 points or 1.5% to settle down at 5,044 points compared to 5,119 points in the previous session. 

Market participation continued to remain subdued as market turnover declined by 0.5% to Taka 4.4 billion.

On the sectoral front, General Insurance (14.0%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Engineering (11.0%) and Pharmaceutical (10.9%) sectors. Sectors displayed negative returns, out of which Services (-5.3%), Jute (-4.5%) and General Insurance (-4.4%) were the biggest losers. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 42 advanced, 314 declined and 41 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, continued experiencing bearish sessions. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) slide by 113.6 and 195.0 points, respectively.
