Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, fell by 40.1 points to settle at 5,087 points as against 5,127 points in the previous trading session. 

Meanwhile, market turnover remained subdued, decreasing further by 14.6% to Taka 3.9 billion from Taka 4.6 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Pharma (13.6%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by General Insurance (11.6%) and Engineering (11.2%) sectors.

 Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Fuel & Power (-2.4%), Jute (-2.2%) and Paper (-1.9%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while only Ceramic (0.9%) and IT (0.4%) exhibited the most positive returns.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 77 advanced, 259 declined and 61 remained unchanged. 

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a negative zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 37.5 points and 63.3 points, respectively.
