DHAKA, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) – The Custom House, Chattogram has completed the largest auction in its history by selling around 2,800 tons of un-cleared goods through an electronic auction, generating substantial revenue for the government.

According to a press release issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) today, the auction was conducted to ease container congestion at Chattogram Port, mitigate security risks, ensure safety of life and property, prevent wastage of state assets, and enhance the port’s overall operational efficiency.

The auctioned items included long-stored used dredger steel pipes, rubber hoses, fittings and accessories kept at the Customs Auction Shed. With a no-objection certificate from the Ministry of Commerce, the auction was carried out through the NBR’s e-auction platform.

A total of 13 bidders participated in the competitive bidding process held on December 15, 2025. The consignment was sold at the highest bid price of Taka 9,27,50,000.

After the successful bidder paid a total of Taka 11,59,37,500, including value-added tax and income tax, the goods were released accordingly, the release said.

The NBR noted that this auction is the largest in terms of quantity ever conducted by Chattogram Custom House. The auction has helped free up a major portion of space at the customs auction shed, ensured significant revenue collection for the government, and improved yard management and operational dynamism at the port.

To maintain smooth port operations, Custom House, Chattogram has been regularly conducting e-auctions to ensure the timely disposal of un-cleared and auctionable goods, the release added.
