
DHAKA, June 17, 2026 (BSS) - A 23-member business delegation led by Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCCI) President Mohd. Khorshed Alam participated in the 10th China-South Asia Expo and the 30th China Kunming Import and Export Fair 2026 in Kunming, China, aiming to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and China.
The delegation attended the six-day event from June 11 to 16 as Bangladesh took part in the expo as the Theme Country, said a press release.
Six companies joined the exhibition through BCCCI - Amanat Shah Group, Techno Drugs Ltd., Akij Food & Beverage Ltd., Ayman Agro Ltd., MM Trade and BCCCI.
In addition, more than 100 Bangladeshi companies showcased their products at the Bangladesh Country Pavilion under the coordination of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming.
On the sidelines of the expo, BCCCI signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Chinese institutions on June 11 to deepen economic engagement and facilitate business cooperation.
According to the press release, the first agreement was signed with Bank of Huzhou Co., Ltd. to promote banking cooperation and facilitate RMB-based trade transactions.
Under the deal, BCCCI will support the bank's efforts to establish a representative presence in Bangladesh and explore ways to simplify bilateral trade settlements and reduce transaction costs.
The second MoU was signed with the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME). The agreement focuses on expanding bilateral trade and investment, business delegation exchanges, information sharing and institutional collaboration.
On June 12, the delegation participated in the Bangladesh Day programme organised with the support of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming.
Speaking on behalf of the BCCCI President, Vice-President Mohammad Masud Ali Khan addressed the event, while Adviser to the President Faizul Alam delivered a presentation highlighting Bangladesh's investment prospects in seven priority sectors, including textiles and garments, leather and footwear, agro-processing, technical manpower and technology transfer, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, electric vehicles (EVs), and artificial intelligence (AI), ICT and e-commerce.
According to BCCCI, the presentation attracted considerable interest from Chinese businesses and investors exploring partnership and investment opportunities in Bangladesh.
The delegation also attended an official dinner hosted by the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming.
Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal, senior government officials, Chinese investors and business leaders were present at the event.
The gathering facilitated direct interactions between Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and potential Chinese partners, helping create new opportunities for trade and investment cooperation.
During the expo, the BCCCI delegation visited the Bangladesh Country Pavilion and reviewed a wide range of products displayed by Bangladeshi exhibitors.
BCCCI President Mohd. Khorshed Alam emphasized the need for Bangladeshi businesses to focus on higher-quality, value-added and internationally competitive products to expand their presence in the Chinese market.
He also encouraged companies to improve product standards, branding and packaging and adopt a more strategic approach to future international exhibitions.
The chamber believes Bangladesh's strong participation in the expo has further enhanced the country's visibility in China and opened new avenues for trade, investment and long-term economic collaboration between the two countries.
