DHAKA, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS)- A workshop titled- Expanding RMG’s Financing Horizons: Opportunities in the Capital Market was held today at the DSE Training Academy.

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) PLC and Swisscontact, an independent international development organization jointly organized the workshop, said a press release.

Senior officials of leading member companies of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) participated in the workshop

DSE Managing Director Nuzhat Anwar, Chief Technology Officer Dr Asifur Rahman, Swisscontact Bangladesh Deputy Country Director Syeda Israt Fatima, Swisscontact PROGRESS Project Team Leader Farzana Amin, INSPIRE Project Team Leader Bidowra Tahmin Khan, BKMEA Deputy Secretary Md Harunur Rashid, BMBA President and LankaBangla Investments CEO Iftekhar Alam, and DSE Market Development Division General Manager Saiyid Mahmud Zubayer attended the programme.

In her opening remarks, Nuzhat Anwar said the capital market is not merely an avenue for investment but also an important source of long-term financing for economic growth and private-sector expansion.

“The capital market should not remain confined to IPOs or the equity market; financing opportunities through bonds and other instruments need to be expanded,” she said.

Although discussions on developing an effective bond market in Bangladesh have continued for years, she said recent initiatives by the current commission and relevant stakeholders have created new opportunities to advance the sector.

Nuzhat Anwar stressed the need to bridge the gap between the financing requirements of the private sector and the financing capacity of the capital market.

She also called for reviewing existing policy and regulatory constraints where necessary, particularly issues related to the utilisation of funds raised through IPOs and opportunities for refinancing.

“The main objective of such discussions is to identify the existing limitations of the capital market from the needs and practical experiences of entrepreneurs and take effective measures to address them,” she said.

She added that DSE is working to build an effective, transparent and business-friendly capital market by giving importance to the views and expectations of relevant stakeholders.

Farzana Amin said Swisscontact has been supporting the development of the RMG sector for nearly two decades.

She stressed that alongside bank financing, the potential of capital-market-based financing should also be considered seriously.

She said Swisscontact plans to provide end-to-end support in the future to RMG companies interested in participating in the capital market.

BKMEA Deputy Secretary Harunur Rashid said industrial enterprises in Bangladesh are still largely dependent on bank financing.

As a result, many companies cannot fully utilise their potential for business expansion due to inadequate financing, he said, adding that the capital market could serve as an effective alternative source of long-term financing.

He said listing good and promising companies on the capital market would help expand businesses, create new employment opportunities and accelerate overall economic growth.

However, he stressed that sustainable business growth after listing is essential for maintaining investor confidence.

Later, BMBA President and LankaBangla Investments CEO Iftekhar Alam discussed the process of listing potential issuers under the new regulations.

He highlighted the benefits of raising long-term capital through IPOs, structural challenges in the capital market and various opportunities for raising equity capital.

DSE General Manager of the Market Development Division Saiyid Mahmud Zubayer presented an overview of the capital market.

His presentation covered the prospects for business expansion through IPOs, QIOs, the SME platform, the bond market, direct listing and other financing mechanisms.

He also highlighted how capital-market listing can help companies raise funds while improving corporate governance and institutional credibility.
