Chhatra Dal leader detained over planning sabotage in Magura

MAGURA, Jan 5, 2024 (BSS)- The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a leader of the BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on allegations of planning sabotage at various polling stations in Magura to disrupt the January 7 election through terrorist activities.

The arrested was identified as District Chhatra Dal vice-president Mohammad Sajib Sheikh, 31, son of Muslim Sheikh of Police Line area of the town.

Superintendent of Police Mashiuddaula Reza said at a press conference at his office today that District Chhatra Dal vice-president Sajib Sheikh was arrested from his home on Thursday around 1:30 pm on the basis of secret information.

After his arrest, his mobile phone was analyzed and, according to his description, a plan for a Centre-based sabotage on election day was found, Reza said.

Two cases against the arrested Sajib are pending in the court. He was recently released on bail, he added.

The Superintendent of Police also said that people will be able to vote in the election in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. Six levels of security measures have been adopted. District police and other law enforcement agencies are fully prepared and capable to deal with any kind of vandalism.
