Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day observed in Khulna

KHULNA, Jan 10, 2024 (BSS) - The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the

Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed today in a befitting
manner in Khulna city.

On January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu returned to independent and sovereign
Bangladesh after over nine and a half months' captivity in a Pakistan jail.

Khulna city and district units of Awami League and its associate
organizations observed the Homecoming Day through various programmes.

Marking the Day, leaders and workers of the party hoisted national and party
flags atop the party office and placed floral wreaths at the portrait of
Bangabandhu at the party office.

Besides, they held a discussion highlighting the life and works of
Bangabandhu along with his contribution to the nation's independence.

Chaired by Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, President of district unit AL and chairman
of Khulna Zila Parishad, city unit AL President and KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul
Khaleque addressed the meeting as chief guest. Among others, MDA Babul Rana,
city unit general secretary and advocate Sujit Adhikari, district unit
general secretary, spoke on the occasion.

A milad and doa mahfil was also held at the party office seeking blessings
for the departed soul of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman and his family members.

Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology
(KUET) and other educational institutions organized different programmes to
mark the day.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of KU Prof Dr Mahmud Hossain placed a wreath at the
mural of Bangabandhu on KU campus premises.

KUET organized a seminar at its auditorium with VC Prof Dr Mihir Ranjan in
the chair.

Meanwhile, Khulna Press Club (KPC), Swadhinata Sangbadik Forum, Khulna Union
of Journalists (KUJ) placed wreaths on the monument of Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman on the Khulna Press Club premises marking the day.

Khulna Press Club President S M Nazrul Islam, General Secretary Mamun Reza,
KUJ President Faruk Ahmed and General Secretary Asaduzzam Riaz, Shadhinota
Sangbadik Forum President freedom fighter Mokbul hossain Mintu and General
Secretary S M Zahid Hossain, among others, were present.
