8 criminals held for killing youth in Khulna

KHULNA, Jan 17, 2024 (BSS)- Police arrested eight criminals during the last

24 hours on charge of killing an Easy Bike driver namely Md Abul Kalam Azad
in the city.

The arrested are prime criminal Monir Howlader alias Monir, Rony Sheikh,
Zahangir Hossain, Forkan Hossain Tuhan, Read Laskar, Sayed Mohon Hossain,
Zahidul Islam and Al Amin Kazi.

During the period, police also seized some parts of snatched Easy Bike from
the possession of Prime criminal Monir Hawlader.

Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md Mozammel Haque disclosed
the matter in a press briefing today at the KMP headquarters.

On the night of January 5 last, police recovered a body tied its legs and
hands with rope from Atra area beside Khulna-Mongla Rail Line under Khanjahan
Ali Thana in the city.

Rani Begum, wife of the deceased, identified the body on the same night. On
January 8, she filed a case with Khanjahan Ali Police Station in this
connection accusing unnamed criminals.

Narrating the killing history, the KMP chief said, the Prime accused Monir
Howlader rented the Easy Bike from Rupsha Ghat area saying he will go to
Moshiali in the city on January 5 evening.

On the way to the destination, Monir picked up his five accomplices Rony,
Zahangir, Forkan, Read and Mohon on the three-wheeler from Atra area. At one
stage, criminals snatched the Easy Bike at sharp weapon leaving the driver
Azad strangulated.

Later, they left the body at a mustered farming field in the area, said the
KMP Commissioner.

The criminals sold some parts of the snatched Easy Bike to Zahidul Islam, a
small 'vangari' (Old scrap spare purchaser) trader and later Zahidul sold it
to Al Amin Kazi, the Commissioner said quoting their confessional statement
to Police.

"The arrested were accused in different criminal cases," he said, adding that
the KMP distributes swing machine and cash money to the victim's wives.

KMP high officials were present during the press briefing.
