National Public Library Day observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 5, 2024 (BSS) - The National Public Library Day-2024 was observed in Rajshahi in a befitting manner today with the call of enlightening people after the best uses of public libraries.
 
Marking the day, the divisional public library and district administration jointly organised a discussion in the conference hall of the divisional public library.
 
"Gronthagare Boy Pori, Smart Bangladesh Gori" was the main theme of the day this year.
 
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Bijoy Basak and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Shamim Ahmed addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with assistant director of the divisional public library Masud Rana in the chair.
 
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Joya Maria Perera and Rajshahi Divisional Councilor of Bangladesh Library Association Abdullah Al Bashir also spoke.
 
Highlighting the significance of the day the discussants unanimously said the role of the library is immense towards building a knowledgeable and enlightened society.
 
They added that books always make people beautiful, bright and prosperous.
 
Only the people enriched with a prosperous heart can build bright Bangladesh.
 
Bijoy Basak said libraries play a fundamental role in developed society not only for access to information but also as a centre for all types of entertainment. Information can be retrieved easily online.
 
"We must have public libraries in every union and these libraries will be serving as the bridge between those who are well-informed about access to information and those who aren't," he added.
 
Earlier, they opened the day by releasing balloons and festoons in the sky.
 
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) observed the day in its campus in a befitting manner today.
 
In addition to taking out a rally, the technological varsity held a discussion at its conference hall.
 
Vice-chancellor Prof Jahangir Alam, Civil Engineering Faculty Dean Prof Muhammad Quamruzzaman Ripon, Applied Science and Humanity Faculty Dean Prof Abbas Ali and Research and Extension Director Prof Faruque Hossain addressed the discussion.
