College student, housewife killed on railway line in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, April 01, 2024 (BSS) - A college student and a housewife were killed on the railway line in Adarsha Collegepara area of Sadar upazila of the district this morning after being hit by a train. 
 
The victims are identified as Razia Begum, 35, wife of Anwar Hossain of Madhya Gobindapur village under Sadar Upazila and Zubair Rahman, a student of SKS School and College of the town and son of Jahidul Islam of Bharatkhali area of Saghata Upazila in the district. 
 
Locals said  a housewife named Razia Begum lay down on the rail line near the college with her one- year-old child in her lap. As a train was approaching, a pedestrian named Zobair Hossain managed to save the child but Razia and Zobair were killed on the spot. 
 
Razia Begum and her husband had family disputes frequently. Due to this, Razia took decision to commit suicide. Accordingly, just after a quarrel she went out of home and lay down on the nearby railway line this morning along with her child. 
 
Witnessing the incident, Zobair, a college student tried to rescue them. When the train approached the duo,  the mother threw her baby from the lap,  although the baby survived, but the college student and the housewife were killed on the spot.
 
After the incident, the locals rescued the baby and sent it to Sadar hospital for treatment. 
 
Gaibandha railway station master Abul Kashem confirmed the incident.
