RMP attains professional competence to protect law and order

RAJSHAHI, May 13, 2024 (BSS)- Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has attained
professional strengths and competence to protect law and order together with
ensuring safety to the public in general through combating all sorts of
crimes.

Utmost emphasis has been given on mitigating various types of social
offenses, including juvenile crimes, food adulteration and reckless driving,
through generating mass-awareness.
 
Talking to BSS here recently, RMP Commissioner Biplob Bijoy Talukder said
they are putting in their level best efforts for maintaining peace and
tranquility everywhere in the metropolis through people's participation.
 
He said they are conducting motorbike rehearsal by police teams on different
main roads and tourists and amusement spots so that the peace-loving people
are sensitized against the social crimes.

Students of schools and colleges are being discouraged from going outside
during their academic time. Guardians are also being requested to care for
their kids for their proper grooming.

In adjacent and surrounding areas of educational institutions, unnecessary
gatherings of youths and juveniles who are supposed to be derailed are
brought under surveillance to prevent eve-teasing and to control juvenile
crimes.

"We have re-organized and reactivated the community policing committees
coupled with infusing dynamism into the activities of bit policing to reach
the police services to the peoples' doorsteps," he added.

RMP has been arranging awareness meetings on traffic rules for drivers and
guardians of juveniles to promote sound traffic systems in the city as road
accidents bring long-lasting pains and sufferings to many families.
 
It has set up check-posts at 36 important points to prevent road traffic
accidents through controlling reckless driving of motorbikes by the unruly
youths.

"We have already launched the 'no helmet no fuel' programme for preventing
road accidents," said the RMP chief, adding that the main thrust of their
programme is to create awareness among the people.
 
Petrol pump owners and employees were given instructions for not selling fuel
to the motorbike owners without having helmets, he said.
 
The commissioner said the present government has declared zero tolerance to
drug-addiction and urged all quarters to come forward to protect the young
generation from the grip of social crimes.
 
"We have to build a healthy society to achieve sustainable development
goals," he said, adding the movement against drug abuse will have to be
turned into a social movement.

RMP's Cyber crime unit has attained success together with attaining trusts
and confidence of people in terms of combating crimes related to cyber crimes
in the metropolis since its inception on September 17, 2020.
 
The unit has been playing a vital role towards bringing those involved in
spreading anti-state rumours and misleading information, and pictures through
using Facebook, instagram, twitter and other social media to book within the
shortest possible time.

It has been working relentlessly in the field of unearthing clueless
incidents, criminal identification and subsequently bringing them to book.
Apart from this, it's sending necessary and demand-driven information to the
adjacent district through proper channels.
 
Utpol Kumar Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (CTTC & LIC),
told BSS that they have received 8,371 complaints related to cyber crimes and
so far disposed of 7,785 of those till March 31 last meaning that disposal
rate is 93 percent.
 
Moreover, the unit has also disposed of 173 pornography and 148 cyber
violence against women cases of harassment and blackmailing of women by
threatening to spread their sensational videos, hacking of the facebook
account, sending of Pornographic pictures and videos through fake messenger.

"We are committed to ensure public security as per desire of Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," asserted RMP Commissioner Biplob Bijoy
Talukder.

Professor Jalal Uddin Sarder of the Department Veterinary and Animal Sciences
in Rajshahi University attributed that the police efforts to ensure peace and
security to the public in general is laudable. As a whole, the Rajshahi city
has become a peaceful habitat.
 
Contribution of Rajshahi City Corporation and its Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman
Liton to make the city clean, green and habitable is also significant, he
added.
