Lekhak Parishad observes historic '6-Point Demand Day' in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 7, 2024 (BSS)- Bangabandhu Janmoshatobarsho International Parishad and Rajshahi Lekhak Parishad jointly observed the Historic 'Six-Point Demand Day' paying tribute to the six-Point Demands martyrs in a befitting manner today.

As part of the daylong programme, they hoisted the national flag amid national anthem and placed floral wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the premises of Rajshahi Association building.

Subsequently, they opened the day's programmes through releasing balloons and festoons and brought out a rally followed by a cultural programme consisting of poetry recitation and songs.

Valiant Freedom Fighter Prof Shamsul Alam, Bir Pratik, opened the programmes, while Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU) Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board Prof Oliul Alam spoke as chief and special guests respectively with Prof Ruhul Amin Pramanik, President of Rajshahi Lekhak Parishad, in the chair.

Prof Tasiqul Islam Raja, General Secretary of Rajshahi Lekhak Parishad, welcomed the participants.

In the conference hall of Rajshahi Association Building, a seminar titled "Bangabandhu's Six-Point Programme: Historic Context and Impacts" was held to mark the day.

Prof Abul Kashem of the Department of History of RU addressed the seminar as focal person with Valiant Freedom Fighter Dr Abdul Mannan in the chair.

Prof Shahid Iqbal, Chairman of the Department of Bangla at RU, Vice-principal of Rajshahi College Prof Ibrahim Ali and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat also spoke.
 
Prof Abul Kashem termed the Six-Point Demand as the charter of Bangalee's freedom saying Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had proclaimed the Six-Point to prepare the whole nation and stimulate the thoughts of the people for achieving the independence of the country.
 
In fact, Bangabandhu had first realized that it was not possible to establish the rights of the Bangalee nation without being independent from the Pakistani regime.
