3 get life-term imprisonment in a van-puller killing case in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 9, 2024 (BSS)-Three persons were convicted and sentenced to life-term imprisonment on charge of their involvement in killing a van-puller in the district around four years back.

They were also fined Taka 20,000 each, in default; they will have to suffer more six months behind the bar.

Muhammad Saifur Rahman Siddiqui, Judge of the Prevention of Public Safety Violation Tribunal, found them guilty in the murder charge and handed down the verdict today.

The convicts are: Minarul Islam, 43, son of Rustam Ali, Masud Rana, 38, son of Mokshed Ali and Jewel, 35, son of Imrul Kayesh. All are residents of Askerpur village under Charghat Upazila in the district.

According to the prosecution story in brief is that the accused gang armed with sharp lethal weapons attacked van-puller Jalal Uddin, 45, and chopped him indiscriminately at Askerpur area on October 9, 2020. Promptly, they decamped with his battery-run van leaving behind him in a pool of blood.

Hearing the sound of his groaning, local people rescued him and took him to the nearby Charghat Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctors declared him dead.

On the following day, Manik Hossain, son of the deceased, lodged a case with Charghat Model Police Station. Upon completion of investigation, the police pressed charges accusing the three accused.

Special Public Prosecutor of Rajshahi Asaduzzaman Mithu conducted the case on behalf of the state.
