National Fisheries Week begins in Shariatpur

SHARIATPUR, July 31, 2024 (BSS) - Week-long 'National Fisheries Week-2024' began today in the district to promote sustainable development and expansion of fisheries resources.

This year, the theme of the week is "Nirapad Machee Varbo Desh, Garbo Smart Bangladesh".

On the occasion of the week, a colorful rally was bought out from in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office which paraded the important streets and ended coming at the conference room of the deputy commissioner office this morning.

After the rally, a discussion was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner's office.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Nizam Uddin Ahmed presided over the function.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Saifuddin Gias, Mayor of Shariatpur Municipality Advocate Parvez Rahman John, Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mainuddin, District Animal Resources Officer Dr. Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, District Fisheries Officer Palash Halder and District Information Officer Shaheen Mia, among others, were preset.

After the discussion, prizes were awarded to the best three successful fishermen from six upazilas of the district and released of fish fry in the pond of Sadar upazila.

The District Fisheries Office have taken various programs marking the event including discussion meetings to protect the main source of safe animal meat and increase production in Upazila, Union Parishad, various educational institutions.

Documentary film screening on progress and success in the fisheries sector of the current government, distribution of materials of fish among fishermen will be held in the district on the occasion.

The National Fisheries Week-2024 will continue till August 5.
