Civic life disrupted partially by incessant rainfall in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, August 1, 2024 (BSS)-Chattogram city as well as most of the parts of the district experienced incessant rainfall for whole day today resulting serious disruption of civic life and a large area of the city remained waterlogged due to heavy rainfall further aggravating the worry of city dwellers.

There were serious dislocations in normal public life as well as all sorts of business activities due to incessant dazzling.

Pathenga Meteorological Office sources said they have measured 148.6 mm rainfall in last 24 hours beginning from 3pm today.

Weather forecast said a deep convection is taking shape over the North Bay due to strong monsoon and squally weather may affect adjoining coastal areas of the country.

The Met office is forecasting further moderate to heavy rainfall in next 24 hours in Chattogram and some other parts of the country.

Although dazzling created serious dislocation in normal life, the people in general heaved a sigh of relief as season’s first light to moderate dazzling.

The residents of the port city witnessed a pleasant morning with light clouds on the skyline but the sky soon turned dark and moderate showers followed, exposing them to worst sufferings in recent years.

Meanwhile, congestion of vehicles in some important city streets including Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, Sholoshahar and other parts of port city were seen as the continuous dazzling streets forced large numbers of vehicles remained stationery that increased suffering of the commuters’ manifolds.
 
Officials of the Chattogram Port Authority said overall operational activities of the country’s prime sea port remained uninterrupted but unloading of bulk-cargoes from the ships was partially hampered during the raining while operational activities in containers handling remained as usual during heavy shower.

Officials of Chattogram International Airport said rain did not hamper the scheduled flight operation at the airport but delayed few flights.

Fire Service, Chattogram Metropolitan and district police control room sources said they have not received any information of rain related accidents including hill or mud collapse that often caused human casualty.
