People get into panic over landslide in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 20, 2024 (BSS) - People living in Chattogram city as well as most part of the district experienced heavy rainfall in the last two days and they became panic assuming landslides.

Normal life and all sorts of business activities remain halted due to incessant dazzling.

Patenga meteorological office sources said they have measured 113.4 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 3 pm today.

The met office is forecasting further moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours in Chattogram and some other parts of the country.

The administration since Friday started asking people through loudspeakers to go to safer places to avoid any kind of untoward situation, said Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakruzzaman.

He said, "None will be allowed to stay in risky hills and residents of those areas have to move to shelter centres or their relatives' houses.

"If necessary, magistrates will conduct evacuation drives and we must prevent deaths by landslides at any cost," he added.

The met office asked Chattogram port to hoist cautionary signal number 3.
