Durga Puja ends with immersion of idols

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 13, 202 (BSS) - The five-day Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community, ended today with immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga peacefully in the water bodies in city's Patenga and Khalurghat beach amid festivity.

Before immersion of the idols, Goddess Durga was bade farewell by a large number of people of the community in the morning.

Amid tight security, idols from puja mandaps in the port city and its adjacent districts were immersed in the different beach areas in the city and district including city's Patenga and Khalurghat.

Marking Bijaya Dashami, a colorful procession was brought out from the city's JM Sen Hall Temple before immersion of idols, which paraded different streets in the city, then ended at Patenga sea beach.

Earlier, hundreds of Hindu devotees attired in their best dresses thronged different puja mandaps, including JM Sen Hall and Chatteshary Temple, in the city since morning to bid farewell to Goddess Durga and sought blessings.

They uttered 'Shuva Bijoya' and exchanged greetings with each other.

This year, as many as 296 puja mandaps were erected in the city and 2175 in 15 upazilas of the district, police said.
