AL leader Omar Faruk arrested in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 16, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested Organizing Secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Thana Awami League Omar Faruk today in several cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement in Rangpur metropolis.
 
"On a tip off, police arrested him from the city's rail gate area," Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station Md Ataur Rahman told BSS this evening.
 
Arrested Omar Faruk was also a former General Secretary of Rangpur Kotwali Thana Chhatra League.
 
"There are several cases against Omar Faruk, including an attempted murder case, in the anti-discrimination student movement. He had been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government," the OC added.
 
Later, police produced Omar Faruk before a Rangpur court from where he was sent to jail this afternoon.
