Administration launches drive to shut illegal brick kilns in Lakshmipur

LAKSHMIPUR, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration has launched a major drive to close down over a hundred illegal brick kilns operating in the district. 

The drive began at around 11 am today from the Char Afzal area of Ramgati upazila, where three illegal brick kilns named Amanat Brick Kiln, Jesmin Sarwar Brick Kiln, and Abdul Wahab Brick Kiln were demolished and the furnaces, chimneys, and raw bricks were destroyed on the spot.

The drive was jointly conducted by Ramgati Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Syed Amzad Hossain, Director of the Department of Environment (DoE) Chattogram Office Md. Jamir Uddin, Executive Magistrate of DoE Dhaka Office Ashiqur Rahman, and Assistant Director of DoE Lakshmipur Office Harun-or-Rashid Pathan. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramgati Police Station Kabir Hossain, along with police and RAB personnel, provided support during the operation.

Ramgati UNO Amzad Hossain said, "Three illegal kilns were demolished today. When the team proceeded toward other sites, some workers tried to create unrest by blocking the road, but order was quickly restored. Necessary legal action will be taken against those involved."

OC Kabir Hossain reaffirmed that legal action will be taken against those who tried to obstruct government work.
