DHAKA, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - Non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Bangladesh 
Kevin Kelly and the first Police Ombudsman in Northern Ireland Baroness Nuala 
O'Loan paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor 
Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan.

The meeting was held today at DU VC's office on the university campus.

Chairman of the DU Botany Department Professor Dr Ashfaque Ahmed, Professor 
Dr Mohammad Zashim Uddin, Professor Dr Mohammad Almujadde Alfasane, and Prof. 
Dr. Muhammad Mezbah-ul-Islam were present on the occasion during the meeting.

The meeting discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly opportunities 
for collaborative academic and research programs between Dhaka University and 
various universities in Ireland.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan briefed the delegation on DU's 
history, academic excellence, and research achievements. 

He also emphasized the importance of establishing global academic and 
research partnerships to enhance educational quality and innovation, a DU 
press release said.

Later, Baroness Nuala O'Loan delivered a public lecture titled "Irish 
Experience of Justice and Reform" at the Department of Botany. 

DU Treasurer Professor Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also addressed the event.
