Fine imposed on Munshiganj brick kilns and fertilizer factory

MUNSHIGANJ, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Environment has imposed a fine of Tk 29 lakh on five brick kilns and one fertilizer factory for violating environmental laws in Sirajdikhan district.

 Assistant Director of the Environment Directorate, Munshiganj, Md. Sanwar Hossain said that a mobile court of the Environment Directorate conducted a raid in Akbarnagar of Sirajdikhan Upazila and Paschim Muktarpur of Sadar Upazila on Sunday, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

During the operation, Abdullah Traders Bricks in Akbarnagar was fined Tk 6 lakh, while Noor Bricks Manufacturing, Bismillah Bricks, Dewan Bricks, and National Bricks were each fined Tk 5 lakh for illegally collecting soil for brick production without district administration approval.

Three brick kiln managers were sent to the District jail for failing to pay fines.

At this time a fertilizer factory named 'Naopara Group' in Paschim Muktarpur was fined Tk 3 lakh for operating without environmental clearance.

The operation was conducted by Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam, with Senior Judicial Magistrate Ifti Hasan Imran, and Assistant Director and Senior Chemist Md Sanwar Hossain of the Environment Department.
