Highway police to strengthen safety on Eid journey

RANGPUR, Mar 5, 2025 (BSS) – The Highway police arranged a special meeting today with line managers of inter-district and long-distance buses to strengthen safety in highways on the occasion of the Eid journey.
 
The meeting was held at the Highway police Rangpur region headquarters aiming at creating an orderly and safe highway through proper traffic management centring the holy Eid-ul-Fitr  . 
 
Line managers of different bus companies in Rangpur zone, including inter-district and long-distance bus companies ENA, SR, Hanif, Shyamoli, Nabil, Shanti, Ahnaf, Dipjol, Golden Line, Shyamoli, Saint Martin and Soukhin attended the event.
 
The general secretary of the Truck Owners Association, leaders of the Motor Vehicle Owners Association, and representatives of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also attended the meeting.
 
Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Highway police Rangpur region Mohammad Tariqul Islam presided over the event.
 
SP, Highway police urged line managers to drive vehicles in accordance with traffic rules during the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity. 
 
To prevent road accidents, he called for controlling the speed of vehicles and using two drivers for long-distance vehicles. He also requested line managers not to charge additional fares.
 
To prevent robberies and other crimes in highways, he requested not to pick up passengers wherever they are, to inform the police about suspicious passengers, to keep video footage of the passengers, and to cooperate with the Highway police during checking. 
 
At this time, student representatives and line managers called for strengthening security in highways centring the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity. 
 
In response, the   SP said, “Security in  the highways has already been strengthened in   Rangpur region on the occasion of the holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.”
 
Additional forces have been deployed in Gobindaganj, Barodorga and Taraganj Highway police stations for traffic management. 
 
“In addition, video recording and check post activities have been strengthened in buses to prevent robberies and crimes,” he said.
