3 arrested over murder of Primeasia University student from city

DHAKA, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested three individuals today in connection with the murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of the Textile Engineering Department at Primeasia University in Banani.

The arrested were identified as Md. Al Kamal Sheikh alias Kamal, 19, Alvi Hossain Junaid, 19 and Al Amin Sunny, 19.

A team from Banani Police Station conducted a raid around 12:15am in the Mohakhali Wireless Gate area and detained the trio, said a police press release.

The arrests were made following an analysis of CCTV footage, which confirmed the suspects' presence at the crime scene during the time of the attack, the release added.

Earlier, on April 19, Zahidul Islam Parvez, a third-year student of the Textile Engineering Department at Primeasia University in Banani and his friend Md. Tariqul Islam were attacked with country-made weapons by a group of individuals on the road in front of the university.

Later, Parvez, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

On April 20, Parvez's cousin Humayun Kabir filed a murder case with Banani Police Station, naming eight individuals and accusing 25-30 people in total of involvement in the crime.

Police said operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects linked to the case.
