One fined for setting up dam in canal in Chattogram

CHATTOGRAM, March 6, 2025 (BSS) –A mobile court today fined a person TK 50,000 for illegally constructing a structure by setting up a dam in the middle of a canal in Boalkhali upazila of the district.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Rahmat Ullah conducted the drive on Kadhurkhil area of the upazila and fined Mohammad Yunus, 78, under Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995.

UNO said that an artificial dam was constructed in the middle of a canal in the Chowdhury Hat area of ??Sharif Para in Kadhurkhil resulting in water flow blockade.  

“With setting up of structure the irrigation activity of this Boro season is being disrupted,' he added.

During the drive, the illegal dam was demolished and the construction work of the structure has also been stopped.
