Women killed in wild elephant attack in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, Mar 8, 2025 (BSS) – A women was killed after being attacked by a wild 
elephant at Surjpur-Manikpur Union of Chakaria Upazila in Cox’s Bazar district last night.

Deceased Jannat Ara, 40, is mother of six children and wife of Fazle Karim of ward No. 8 of 
Chairman Para of North Surajpur. 
 
Witnesses said while she was drying tobacco leaves last night, a wild elephant attacked and 
trampled her to death immediately.

Azimul Haque, Chairman of Surajpur-Manikpur Union confirmed the death of Jannat Ara 
and said due to massive deforestation, wild elephants are losing their habitat and foods. As 
such, elephants are entering into the localities and causing damage to peoples’ lives and 
wealth.
