RANGPUR, March 9, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent former Awami League lawmaker of Nilphamari-1 constituency Aftab Uddin Sarkar to Rangpur Central Jail after a four-day remand in connection with the murder case of Mahmudul Hasan Munna.

After the four-day remand, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) of the Metropolitan Kotwali police station, Mostafizur Rahman, produced Aftab Uddin Sarkar in Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 today.

After a hearing, Judge Md. Soyebur Rahman of Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 rejected the bail prayer and ordered to send Aftab to jail.

The court also set March 18 for submission of the investigation report of the case.

Earlier, Mahmudul Hasan Munna was shot dead in front of the Rangpur Raja Ram Mohon Club in the metropolis on August 4 during the student-led mass uprising.

Munna's father, Abdul Majid, filed a case against 128 people, including former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and Aftab Uddin Sarkar, with the Metropolitan Magistrate Kotwali Cognizance Court on August 29 last year.

On March 6, police arrested Aftab Uddin Sarkar from the city's New Senpara area. He was taken on a four-day remand on the same day.
