Police surveillance increased to check crime in Khulna

KHULNA, March 11, 2025 (BSS) – Against the backdrop of changing situation, police surveillance has been increased to check crime in Khulna city as well as in the district, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md Ahsan Habib here today.

Addressing the monthly law and order committee meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Room here, he said anti-drug operation is being carried out in the city and its adjoining areas when a significant amount of illegal drugs have already been seized. 

He also mentioned that patrolling activities are being strengthened, particularly to ensure the safety of women and children during Eid shopping.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam presided over the meeting.

Superintendent of Police T.M. Mosharraf Hossain informed the meeting that drug abuse increased alarmingly in the city compared to the past few months. In this connection, he emphasized on creating mass awareness along with police operations against drug abuse. 

About law and order situation, he told the meeting that law enforcement agencies have been working tirelessly to maintain law and order to ensure safety and security of people. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that the operation of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has significantly been expanded across the city. Food supplies are being provided to approximately 91,000 TCB card holders in Khulna, he added. 

In addition, he said open market sales have been increased, keeping commodity prices stable. 

Laying emphasis on keeping prices of essentials within the reach of the general masses, he said that strict action would be taken against the hoarders and those selling substandard goods in the markets. 

He mentioned that Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) are regularly monitoring the markets during Ramadan to prevent price hikes.

Additional District Magistrate Dipankar Dash presented an overview of the law and order situation in Khulna district and the metropolitan area over the last several months.

Among others, UNOs of different upazillas, officials from various government departments and committee members attended the meeting.
