CHATTOGRAM, March 13, 2025 (BSS)-A Chattogram court today sentenced a youth to life term imprisonment for killing a construction worker in the city in 15 years ago.

The court of first Additional Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Abdur Rahman pronounced the verdict also fined convicted another construction worker Nazrul Islam Tk 50,000 in default; he will suffer one year more in jail.

According to court sources, construction workers supplier Monju Mia was beaten to death with various heavy construction materials including a shovel by the convicted Nazrul on the night of April 24, 2010, while working on a construction site belonging to one Arifur Rahman in Chandranagar area of ??Bayezid Bostami police station.
 
Nazrul was also given work by Arifur Rahman on the same plot. A dispute arose between the two over this. As a result, Manju was murdered.

Locals brought him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries there.

Victim's wife filed a murder case with Biyazid thana after the incident accusing another contractor Nazrul and his accomplice Shahab Uddin over the killing.

The police submitted a charge sheet before the court on September 15, 2010 accusing them after the investigation.

The court pronounced the verdict today after examining 11 prosecution witnesses out of 14 awarded the judgement convicting Nazrul in absence of him.

The court also acquitted Shahab Uddin for not proving the allegation brought against him.
