ACC sues two ex-UZ chairmen in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, March 14, 2025 (BSS) - The local office of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has lodged two separate cases against two former Upazila Chairmen in the district on charges of accumulating illegal wealth.

According to ACC sources, the accused are Jahangir Alam, former chairman of Godagari Upazila and Lutfor Haider Rashid Moina, former chairman of Tanore Upazila -both Juba League leaders.  

ACC Assistant Director Muhammad Zinnatul Islam lodged the cases with the commission's district office on Thursday as the plaintiff, confirmed Deputy Director Fazlul Bari.

Citing the preliminary investigation report, Fazlul Bari said the two were involved in various corrupt activities for a long time through their connection with former Rajshahi-1 MP Omor Faruque Chowdhury.

During the investigation, ACC found evidence that Jahangir Alam had illegally acquired wealth worth Taka 1,11,65,000. Additionally, he possessed movable and immovable wealth worth Taka 7,71,11,000.

On the other hand, Lutfor Haider Rashid illegally obtained wealth worth Taka 49,68,000. He has total wealth amounting to 1,14,42,000 including immovable wealth of Taka 42,36,000 and movable wealth of Taka 69,05,000.

Fazlul Bari said that they repeatedly served notices to the two individuals to submit their wealth reports, but they didn't pay heed and have remained in hiding since the ousting of the previous regime on August 5 last year.
