Youth killed in Cumilla road accident

CUMILLA, April 22, 2025 (BSS)- A young man was killed after falling off his elder brother's motorcycle and being run over by the wheels of a covered van in Cumilla city today.

The deceased was identified as Emon Sarkar, 23, hailed from Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district. He resided with his elder brother in a rented house in Cumilla's Kotbari area. 

Emon's elder brother, Sumon Sarkar, was injured in the accident and is hospitalized now.

The accident took place in Rammala area of Tomsom bridge in Cumilla at around 11:30 am, Officer in-Charge (OC) of Kandirpar Police Outpost under Kotwali Police Station Muhammad Rakibul Islam confirmed.
 
According to the eyewitnesses, the accident occurred near Rammala water tank intersection when the duo was traveling towards Tomsom bridge by a motorcycle.

After leaving the Rammala Holy Family Hospital, Emon fell off the motorcycle in the area as it collided with a roadside auto-rickshaw and was run over by a covered van coming from the opposite direction, leaving him dead on the spot, they added.

The OC said, "Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem."
