NFL Texans lose 1,000-yard rusher Mixon for four games

HOUSTON, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon, a 1,000-yard rusher last season, will miss the first four games of the upcoming NFL campaign with a foot injury, the team announced on Monday.

Mixon was placed on the non-football injury list in July for a mishap suffered before the start of training camp and will be moved to the injured reserve list on Tuesday, the Texans announced.

That means Mixon will be sidelined for games next month at the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars and home contests against Tampa Bay and Tennessee.

He will be eligible to return for an October 5 game at Baltimore.

Mixon, who originally only had been questionable for week one, missed three games last season with an ankle injury but still ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns -- his fifth 1,000-yard season in eight NFL campaigns -- and caught 36 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown.

Mixon, 29, spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before being obtained by the Texans in a trade last year.

His likely replacement in the Houston lineup will be Nick Chubb, a long-time starter with Cleveland for the past seven seasons who was dropped after playing only 10 games the past two seasons due to injuries, including knee injuries in 2023 and a broken foot last season.
