DHAKA, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team’s coach Arduzzaman Munshi today expressed his optimism that his team would be able to win at least a medal in the 2nd Women’s Kabaddi World Cup to be held at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium at Mirpur from November 17-24.
“We have prepared with the hope that we’ll at least win a medal. We are still optimistic that we can give the country a good gift by bringing home a medal,” said the Bangladesh coach.
He said as the World Cup is going to be held in home soil, the motivation increased – playing on home soil gives the players extra enthusiasm.
“There has been no lack of effort in our training. We have been practicing consistently from the very beginning. We are now sufficiently prepared for the World Cup,” he said further.
He said that India are far ahead in kabaddi. At the moment, they are out of our reach. Apart from India, however, we have the ability to beat every other team. The truth is, except for India, we have the strength to defeat any team. So we are hopeful of winning a medal.
Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team captain Ruplai Akter said: “I have actually been playing kabaddi since 2009. It feels really good to be captain in the World Cup as I had never captained before. I am going to end my playing career with the World Cup. So becoming captain in this tournament is something special to me.”
She said they have been taking preparation for the World Cup for a long time. The tournament was postponed twice. Even then, they continued training.
Rupali said in such a big tournament, everyone would come to give their best. India, Iran, and Chinese Taipei are strong teams. Nepal and Thailand are also strong sides.
The captain said they want to do better in the World Cup as Bangladesh finished fifth in the first edition.
