DHAKA, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam today said women’s participation in various sectors has increased significantly after the July mass uprising.
He made these remarks at an event titled “Women in establishing democracy: What we have gained” organized by Women in Democracy at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) auditorium in the capital.
Mahfuj expressed the hope that over the next five years, women will join mainstream politics in larger numbers.
Regarding women’s empowerment, the adviser said Bangladesh’s society is a highly complex intersection of religion, tradition, legal frameworks, and modernity. “Understanding this is essential to create paths for social consensus,” he added.
He said that the history of Bangladeshi women represents a continuous 150-year trajectory — which cannot be addressed without proper understanding.
The adviser emphasized that policy implementation is not possible by the government alone. Political parties, institutions, and civil society must be actively involved in it, he added.
He said, “What is needed is to ensure open spaces for political parties, so that they can take part in policy formulation and implementation.”
Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, human rights activist and photographer Shahidul Alam, Professor Dilara Chowdhury, Gano Sanghati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki, Chairman of Khan Foundation Rokhsana Khan, National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Convenor Samantha Sharmin, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Jara, AB Party Joint General Secretary Barrister Nasrin Sultana Mili, political analyst Zahed Ur Rahman, Prof Taslima Mirza, Prof Dr. Samina Luthfa, Prof Dr. Nahreen I Khan, Mahsina Momtaz Maria and Advocate Fahima Nasrin Munni, among others, spoke on the occasion.
