Five AL men arrested in Khulna

KHULNA, April 23, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested five activists of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies from various parts of the city in the last 24 hours ending 12pm today. 

The arrestees are Md Shamimur Rahman Shamim, supervisor of conservancy section of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Zahangir Farazi, 45, Abdullah Al Mamun, 33, Abul Khan, 60, and Zillur Rahman Rana 40.

A team of police conducted raids at different places under Harintana police station and KCC and detained them, said Md Ahsan Habib, additional deputy commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) today.

Police arrested them after analyzing video footage and pictures of procession, he said, adding that drives are underway to arrest other criminals.

On Sunday, AL activists brought out processions at various points in the city, including Zero Point and Mohila College Road, in the city.

Police filed cases against 300 leaders and activists of the AL and its front organizations with three police stations on Sunday night. 

Meanwhile, the KCC authorities have suspended Robiul Alam Robi, license officer and Shamimur Rahman Shamim, supervisor of conservancy section. 

Laskar Tazul Islam, chief executive officer of KCC, confirming the suspension said that they have been suspended for violating KCC act.
