Youth gets 14-yr jail for kidnapping girl in Jashore

JASHORE, April 23, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted a youth and sentenced him to 14 years behind bar on charge of kidnapping a girl in Keshabpur upazila of the district in 2020.
 
Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Golam Kabir handed down the verdict.
 
The courts also fined convict Matiur Rahman Moti, son of Hachen Ali of Laxminathkati Majherpara village of the upazila. Taka, 50,000, in default, to suffer four months more in jail, said Abdul Latif Lata, public prosecutor (PP) of the court.
 
According to the prosecution, Matiur Rahman Moti made a love proposal and marriage to a ninth-grade madrasa student. But after getting refused, he kidnapped the girl on January 3, 2020. 
 
After that, on January 9, the student's mother filed a kidnapping case with Keshabpur Police Station. 
 
Later, police rescued the girl from a house in Sheikhhati area of Jashore Sadar upazila. On January 28, 2020, police filed a charge sheet in the case.
 
After examining evidence, the judge found the convict guilty and handed down the punishment.
