Bail to 44 AL men denied in Lakshmipur

LAKSHMIPUR, April 23, 2025 (BSS) - A Lakshmipur court today denied bail to 44 leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) in a case filed over the murder of four students during the July uprising. 

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Abu Sufian Mohammad Noman rejected their bail pleas and ordered them to send to jail after police produced them before court.

Sadar Upazila Awami League President Humayun Kabir Patwari, President of Lakshmipur Paurosava Awami League Syed Ahammad, former panel mayor of the Paurosava Kamal Uddin Khokon and Chairman of Uttar Hamchadi Union Parishad Mir Shah Alam were among the 40 leaders and activists of the party. 

On August 4, 2024, four students - Saad Al Afnan, Kawser Hossain Bijoy, Sabbir Hossain and Osman Goni - were shot dead, and over 200 students sustained bullet injuries in the Tomij Market and Madam Bridge areas in the district town.
