6 burglars held with stolen gold, cash in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, April 23 , 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) have detained six alleged thieves along with stolen goods after conducting a series of drives in different parts of the city on Tuesday night and today.  

During the drives, Kotowali police recovered nine and a half pounds of melted gold, two gold ornaments, TK 3.5 lakh in cash and foreign currencies from their possessions.

The arrestees  were identified as Nur Uddin, 35, his wife Kulsum Begum, 28, Hannan Hossain 28 and Hridoy Hawlader 27.

Later, on the basis of the information given by Nur Uddin, gold trader Manik Chandra Singh and Ripon Chandra Pal, who was involved in selling stolen melted gold were also arrested from city’s Bakalia area today.

Officer-in charge of Kotowali police station   Md. Abdul Karim told journalists that a police team recovered the cash money and gold ornaments from the possession of Kulsum Begum, wife of burglar gang leader Nur Uddin   from a house in Hamjarbagh area under Panchlaish thana in the city.

 Abdul Karim said further investigation is on to identify and detain other members of the gang.
