NATORE, May 8, 2025 (BSS) - Village courts here have resolved 1,691 out of 2,065 cases, realizing Tk 3.81 crore in compensation for affected parties, officials told a coordination meeting today.

The meeting, held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room, revealed that 82 percent of the total cases were disposed of through the district's 49 village courts.

Deputy Commissioner Asma Shahin attended the meeting as chief guest, while Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Asma Khatun presided over the session.

Speakers highlighted that village courts, established under the Village Court Act 2006, operate at the union level to settle minor civil and criminal disputes involving amounts up to Tk 3 lakh.

They noted that the process is fast and affordable, requiring only a nominal fee of Tk 10 to Tk 20, and does not require the involvement of lawyers.

District Legal Aid Officer and Senior Assistant Judge Ismat Ara Tushi also spoke at the meeting, among others.
