3-day Rabindra fair begins in Khulna

KHULNA, May 8, 2025 (BSS) - A three-day long Rabindra Fair began here today marking 164th birth anniversary of Bishwakobi Rabindranath Tagore at Daxindihi of Fultala upazila, birthplace of Mrinalini Devi, wife of Tagore.

Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarker inaugurated the fair by releasing balloons and festoons in the Rabindra Complex premises. Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam was in the chair.

Professor Dr. Md. Dulal Hossain of the Bengali Department of Khulna University presented the keynote paper.

Principal of Govt. Brajalal College, Prof. Sheikh Md. Humayun Kabir, DIG of Khulna Range Rezaul Haque addressed the inaugural program as special guests while Fultala UNO Tasnashi Jahan delivered welcome speech.

The event began with the national anthem, "Amar Shonar Bangla, Ami Tomay Bhalobashi," penned by the poet himself. The three-day event is scheduled to conclude on Saturday night.

Speakers said Rabindranath’s thoughts extended far beyond creative literature into economics, society, and governance, earning him a revered place in intellectual discourse.

He was a pioneer not only in literature and culture but also in rural development, cooperatives, and social service.  Over a hundred years ago, the poet envisioned agricultural development ideas that are now being implemented.

Meanwhile, a vibrant three-day program is also being held at the ancestral home of Rabindranath’s forefathers in Pithavog village of Ghatvog Union in Rupsha upazila.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Hossain Shawkat addressed the event as the chief guest with Rupsha UNO Akash Kumar Kundu in the chair.

Professor Dr. Md. Anis-Ar-Reza, Director of the Secondary and Higher Education Directorate for Khulna Region presented the keynote paper.

At this event, speakers described Rabindranath Tagore as a shining star of Bengali literature.
