Cumilla AL leader arrested over alleged conspiracy plot

CUMILLA, May 9, 2025(BSS) - Police arrested Advocate Zahirul Islam Selim, vice president of the Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League on allegations of conspiring to incite unrest through a virtual meeting with Sheikh Hasina.

According to Mahinul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station, Selim was detained from his residence in the Dakshin Charta area of Cumilla city around 2am on Thursday.

Police sources said the arrest followed a virtual meeting held on Wednesday between former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several leaders of the Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League, including former Cumilla Sadar MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar.

They reportedly made plan to create chaos throughout Cumilla in this meeting. Considering the allegation, Advocate Zahirul Islam Selim was arrested.
