Kazi Nazrul Islam's 126th birth anniversary observed in Manikganj

Manikganj, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - The 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated with great enthusiasm and festivity yesterday at Teota village in Shibalaya Upazila of Manikganj, the birthplace of his beloved wife, Promeela Nazrul.

The programmes under the auspices of Shibabalaya Upazila administration included placing the floral wreath on the portraits of Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Promeela Nazrul, discussion, recitation of Nazrul's poem, Nazrul sing, a special drama and dances.

Artists from the Manikganj District Shilpakala Academy, along with local performers, took part in the vibrant cultural events.

Dr. Manwar Hossein Malla, Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj, attended the program as the chief guest, while the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shibalaya presided over the event.

Among others Zia Cultural Organization's former President Rezabuddoula Chowdhury, Nazrul -Promeela Parishad Central Committee President also the former Director Education Officer (DEO) Md. Abdul Monnaf Khan, Krishbid Rafiq Chowdhury, Miajan Kabir, Teota Union Parishad Chairman Mosharaf Hossain and Manikganj Press Club Convenor Zahangir Alam Biswas took part in the discussion.

The speakers urged the government to establish a Public University named "National Poet Kazi Nazrul and Promeela Nazrul University" at Teota, rescue the properties of Promeela Nazrul, establish a research and cultural center.

The function was ended at the night with the musical performance.
