GAIBANDHA, May 28, 2025 (BSS) - Health experts at a programme underscored the need for early identification of obstetric fistula patients and bringing them under treatment facilities in government hospitals to help them return to a healthy and normal life.

Mentioning that treatment facilities are available in government hospitals including Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura, they urged the guardians of patients to send them to these hospitals to receive free treatment for early recovery from the disease.

They made these recommendations while marking the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula at Gobindaganj upazila in the district today, calling for efforts to build an obstetric fistula-free country by 2030.

The upazila health complex chalked out elaborate programmes with technical support from UNFPA Bangladesh-funded LAMB Hospital, an NGO assisting the government in achieving a fistula-free country by 2030 by identifying patients at the field level and referring them to government hospitals, including Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, for proper treatment.

In the morning, a grand rally was brought out from the health complex premises and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the upazila town.

Later, a discussion on the significance of the day was held at the conference room of the health complex with Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Masudar Rahman in the chair.

Resident Medical Officer Dr. Fahad Al-Asad addressed the function as the resource person, while Junior Consultant (Gynae) Dr. Fahmida Shirin spoke at the event as the chief discussant.

A large number of health staff, officials, NGO activists, and invited guests participated in the programme.
