International Day of UN Peacekeepers observed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 29, 2025 (BSS) - The 'International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers- 2025' was observed through colorful programs in a befitting manner in the city today.

 
The 66 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army is celebrating the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers- 2025 various programs in Rangpur. 

 
Marking the day, a peacekeepers' rally was taken out from the Rangpur Zilla School ground in the morning under the slogan 'The Future of Peacekeeping'. 

 
The rally circled the important roads and ended at the Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College ground in the city. 

 
Everyone present at the Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College ground at that time sang the national anthem in unison. 

 
Later, a one-minute silence was then observed in memory of those killed in the UN peacekeeping operations.

 
Then, Rangpur Area Commander and General Officer Commanding of 66 Infantry Division Major General Mohammad Kamrul Hasan inaugurated the observance by releasing balloons and pigeons, a symbol of peace, there as the chief guest.

 
Among others, Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, Rangpur Range DIG of Bangladesh Police Aminul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali, senior military and civilian officials were present.
 
Highlighting the significance of the day, Major General Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said that in the long history of four decades of peacekeeping, Bangladeshi peacekeepers have completed 63 UN missions in 43 countries and places around the world. 

 
"Currently, we have 5,818 peacekeepers deployed in UN peacekeeping missions and activities in 10 countries, including 444 female peacekeepers," he said. 

 
Since its inception, a total of 168 peacekeepers from Bangladesh have been martyred in UN peacekeeping missions. 
 
He also said that currently, Bangladesh is contributing to UN peacekeeping missions by sending a significant number of military personnel. 

 
In continuation of this, four senior officers of the Bangladesh Army (with the rank of Major General and Brigadier General) are engaged in various important responsibilities of the United Nations. 
 

Members of Bangladeshi peacekeepers, officials and members of Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, BGB, Police, Bangladesh Ansar and local administrations, guests, teachers, students and journalists participated in the rally.
