KHULNA, May 29, 2025 (BSS) - The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was observed in a befitting manner in the city today.

The Bangladesh Navy of Khulna Naval Zone organised various programmes marking the day.

The day began with a colourful rally around 7:30 am from Shibbari intersection in the city.

The Chairman of Mongla Port Authority, Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, addressed the rally as the chief guest.

Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the rally by releasing balloons, festoons, and pigeons. A one-minute silence was also observed in honour of slain UN peacekeepers.

Among others, high officials of the Army, Navy, Police, various UN organisations in Bangladesh, government officials of Khulna local administration, and the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps took part in the rally.

Every year, the International Day of UN Peacekeepers is observed on May 29 across the world. The purpose of observing the day is to underscore the importance of maintaining global peace, pay tribute to those involved in peacekeeping missions, and honour the UN peacekeepers who lost their lives while discharging duties.
