CHATTOGRAM, May 29, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram district police arrested HM Nazrul Islam, 65, former religious affairs secretary of Anwara upazila Awami League (AL), along with four firearms in a raid at the upazila. 

His associate, Mir Hossain Mia, 43, a resident of Maheshkhali Upazila , was also arrested during the operation. 

 A team of DB police arrested Nazrul from his house on Ichamati Road in Sadar Union of Anwara Upazila on Thursday morning. 

Chattogram District Police provided the information at a press conference in the afternoon. 

 DB police sources said that there were allegations of illegal storage of weapons at the house of AL leader Nazrul Islam for a long time. They have been involved in arms trading for a long time. 

Additional Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area and DB) Md Russell said that based on a tip-off, four firearms, a CNG auto-rickshaw and two mobile phones were seized from their possession.  

A case was filed against them with Anwara police station.
