NAOGAON, Aug 16, 2025 (BSS) - Due to heavy rains and hilly slopes coming down from upstream, the water level of the rivers in Naogaon continues to rise.
Especially the water level of the Chhota Jamuna and Atrai rivers is increasing alarmingly. Already, the water is flowing above the danger level at two points of the Atrai river.
Meanwhile, the road broke in the Talpatila area of Kasab union of Manda upazila this morning and water entered several villages including Talpatila, Chakbalu and Chakrampur.
Manda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Akhtar Jahan Sathi visited the area and assured that the road would be repaired soon.
UNO Akhtar Jahan said that the officials of Water Development Board have been keeping an eye on the risky places near the river, day and night, and making the locals aware of what to do in an emergency.
As the water of the Atrai River is flowing above the danger level, at least 10 embankments in the upazila's Chakrampur, Uttar Chakrampur, Koylabari, Jokahat, Dwariapur, Nurullabad, Parnurullabad and Talpatila areas have been identified as very risky.
In addition, at least 20 points including Laxmirampur, Ayapur, Panjarbhanga, Palashbari, Mithapur, Nikhirapara and Goalmanda have been kept on the high risk list.
Naogaon Water Development Board Sub-Divisional Engineer Prabir Kumar Pal said that on Saturday afternoon, the water level at Jotbazar point of Atrai River was 37 centimeters above the danger level and at Railway Bridge point of Atrai River it was 31 centimeters above the danger level.
Since the river water level increased, risky places like the Atrai and Chhota Jamuna are being inspected day and night.
The Water Development Board has always been providing overall support to the upazila administration. However, no dam has broken anywhere in the district so far.
